Responsible gambling: control the money before it leaves
This site is mostly about the cashier, so it is natural that its responsible gambling page starts there too. Gambling has a house edge: overall, players lose. What each person can control is how much they risk, for how long and which brakes they set before starting. The best tools for that sit in the cashier and the account settings.
Deposit limits
A deposit limit is the most effective tool there is, because it acts before money goes in. Look for daily, weekly and monthly limits in your account settings on any platform you use, and set one before your first deposit. In several jurisdictions licensed operators are required to offer them. Loss limits and session time limits, where available, complete the set.
Tools in your account
- Deposit limit — daily, weekly or monthly.
- Loss limit — maximum loss over a period.
- Session reminders — alerts about time played.
- Cooling-off period — a temporary pause of the account.
- Operator self-exclusion — closing the account for a long or indefinite period.
Details on the self-exclusion page.
National self-exclusion schemes
Many countries run a national self-exclusion register that covers every operator licensed there. In Portugal, for example, the regulator SRIJ runs a central register covering all licensed operators, for a minimum of 3 months or indefinitely. Such schemes only reach operators licensed in that country — for any other operator, request self-exclusion directly as well.
18+ and age verification
Gambling is for adults only. The identity checks operators require also confirm age. At home, the first barrier is simple: passwords out of reach of minors and parental controls on shared devices. Some countries restrict or ban online gambling; it is up to the player to know the rules where they are.
Warning signs
- Depositing to win back losses.
- Using money meant for fixed expenses, or borrowing.
- Hiding gambling from people close to you.
- Raising limits after hitting them.
- Reversing withdrawals to keep playing.
If you recognise two or more of these, stop and talk to someone you trust or to a health professional. Use the support services available in your country; you do not need to wait until things are serious to ask for help.
Helpful habits
Decide the budget before logging in and treat it as spending, not investment. Withdraw part of any win as soon as it happens — easier than it sounds when decided in advance. And never reverse a pending withdrawal to carry on playing.
