The house edge is the share of each bet the game keeps on average. On European roulette, with a single zero, it is about 2.7% on almost every bet, because the zero loses the even-money bets. In blackjack it depends on the table rules and the player's decisions; following basic strategy lowers it, playing by feel raises it. Why betting systems fail
Systems such as doubling after every loss look like a guaranteed small profit. In practice they hit two walls: the player's budget and the table maximum. A losing streak — which happens more often than intuition suggests — pushes the required stake past one of them, and the accumulated loss is large. No system changes the house edge.
Bonus contribution
